The wooded lakeside at the edge of Llandrindod Wells
Usually on my sound recording outings, I try to get as far from "civilisation" as possible. But here is an example of an almost pristine natural soundscape right at the edge of my local town.
On my weekly trip into Llandrindod, I often take a walk around the lake and through the mixed deciduous woodland which borders it to the East. Hearing the variety of spring birdsong here, I decided to come in early one morning and record the dawn chorus.
As I was a little late arriving, by the time I had set up my microphones in the woodland about 50m from the edge of the lake, things were already well underway.
The most vociferous performers here are the resident colony of Rooks, and Canada Geese on the lake. Also present: Wren, Blackbird, Blackcap, Robin, Song Thrush, Wood Pigeon, Tawny Owl and a probably few more which are so buried in the cacophony that I find it hard to discern their individual calls!
