During a period of near-drought conditions, a warm sea breeze whips across a field of Yellow Rattle. With Skylarks, Meadow Grasshoppers, Bumble Bees & the occasional gull.
Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor) is an interesting plant commonly found in fields of permanent grassland. It is partially parasitic and entagles its roots with those of the grass as a means to obtain additional nutrients. In late summer, after the bright yellow flowers have faded, it produces paper-thin seed pods which create a characteristic rattle in the wind.
